Families come first in Catered4thekids scheme

25 October, 2007

New accreditation mark will set the standards for food, drink and service in family dining

Pubs welcoming families are being given the opportunity to shout it from the rooftops with a brand new accreditation scheme.

Led by Carl May, the business development consultant behind The Publican’s Sell More, Save More project, Catered4thekids is a new catering mark that will set the standards for food, drink and service for children’s menus and family dining across the trade.

Launched in association with The Publican, a Catered4thekids website will enable consumers to pinpoint pubs in their area where children’s meals meet the Catered4thekids standards.

The standards cover aspects of healthier cooked food including vegetables with main meals and alternatives to chips as well as sugar free fruit drinks.

When parents see a pub that has achieved the catered4 the kids catering mark they will know that they will receive a great welcome and a quality children’s menu.

Help is available on the trade section of the site for licensees to achieve the standards required – and they can list their complete family offer on the site when they have met every one. This can include menus, web links, downloadable directions to their pub and pictures.

Carl said: “Catered4 the kids is giving every pub the opportunity to embrace the huge potential in the growing family market.

“The smoking ban now makes the great British pub much more appealing as a family destination for an enjoyable meal out.”
