Jus-Rol launches celebration of pub food classic
The culinary calendar is about to get even more crowded, with March 1 to 7 2008 now officially designated as British Pie Week.
The annual Publican Food Report shows steak pie to be consistently the best-selling pub dish. Pie Week, launced in association with pastry specialist Jus-Rol, includes a website offering pubs support to celebrate the pub food staple, including free POS kits and pie recipes.
Jus-Rol is also looking for the face of British Pie Week with a £500 prize for the best pie recipe submitted. As well as the cash, the creator of the winning recipe will win a day with Jus-Rol’s pie expert to develop a bespoke pie menu for the pub ready for British Pie Week.
In the build up to British Pie Week, the public will be voting for their favourite pub pie, so pubs are being encouraged to rally their regulars to vote at the www.britishpieweek.co.uk website.
John McKears, foodservice sales manager for Jus-Rol, said: “The pie is justifiably one of the great British favourites. Being the UK’s most popular pastry dish, Jus-Rol felt it truly deserved its own national week and are delighted to be associated with its launch."
