Drastic measure a result of licensing review by local council
A pub that is being forced to install CCTV in its gents toilets is set to appeal the decision on the basis it will be embarrassing for customers.
The Weighing Machine, in Wavertree, Liverpool, is being made to install the cameras following a review of its licence by the local council.
The review was brought by Merseyside Police based on claims of an assault on a police officer at the pub and police evidence of drugs being supplied on the premises.
Liverpool City Council’s licensing authority decided the measure was necessary to “promote the prevention of crime and disorder” as laid out in the Licensing Act.
But licensee Christina Roberts said she would appeal the decision. “We will appeal on the grounds that it will be embarrassing for our customers and an invasion of privacy,” she said.
However the council said the camera was not intended to cover the urinals and cubicles – only the general washing and sluicing area.

I think its a great idea megapixel cctv can give you very defined pictures and cover a wide area, They should cover the cubicle area as well, this is where you will catch the offenders and yes and in the ladies otherwise you could be subject to sexual discrimation
This isn't new really. I used to work in a night club in Edinburgh about 7/8 years ago. they had cameras on the wash hand basins in both the male and female toilets. We used to watch them after work cause there were some sights
Why only the gents toilet? Don't women take drugs?
Correct me if I am wrong but I am sure that the toilet area in any venue is classed as private.
