28 September, 2009
Under 25s cannot be used to promote drink prodcuts
The public are being urged to report drinks companies that use someone who looks under 25 to promote their products.
The Portman Group is running a series of adverts in the national press as part of a new campaign to remind people of the rule, which is part of its code of practice.
The advert also include the group’s full code of practice.
David Poley, Portman Group chief executive, said: “We have chosen to promote the 25 year-old rule because it is one of the lesser known restrictions.
“It applies to any marketing activity carried out in the UK by a drinks company.
“The industry has set itself extremely high standards across all its marketing. Now, we want to ensure consumers know the rules and how to complain.”
