TV Mel delivers pub voucher message

11 November, 2009

Celeb launches Pub Tokens scheme in time for Christmas

Model turned TV presenter Melinda Messenger was on hand today to launch the first ever pub voucher scheme designed for use across the on-trade.

As of tomorrow customers will be able to buy the vouchers in £10 and £20 denominations from www.pubtokens.com

The vouchers can be used for accommodation, food and drink in participating pubs. Greene King, JW Lees, Shepherd Neame, Daniel Thwaites and Young’s – along with a number of individual tenants and freeholders have already signed up to the scheme.

Melinda said: “It’s such a simple but fantastic idea and is a great alternative to traditional gift voucher schemes. So many pubs are family friendly these days that we often go to our local for a meal. The fact that you can redeem Pub Tokens for a meal, drinks or accommodation in around a thousand pubs makes them the ideal present for any occasion.”

PubTokens.com managing director Dominic Lavan said: “It is no secret that the pub sector has been badly affected by the downturn in the economy as well as the smoking ban, rising taxes and other business costs; so it’s great to see the industry pulling together for the first time to seriously compete for a slice of the UK gift voucher market.”

I've signed up (posters already in my windows) and I could be wrong, but I got the distinct impression that the take-up from the trade was quite poor? Don't under-estimate the opportunity here, without exception, every single customer has commented positively on the posters, saying it's a fantastic idea as "they always stuggle to think of what to buy dad"!!
