London and Birmingham licensing consultation events full up
30 July, 2010
Licensees urged to sign up to remaining events in Wales and the North - or have their say through Home Office website
The Home Office licensing consultation events in London and Birmingham are already full, The Publican understands.
However, it is understood places are still available at the Newcastle (August 9), Blackpool (August 13) and Cardiff (August 19) events.
Licensees can attend either a two-and-a-half-hour morning or afternoon session, but each session is limited to 50 places.
Licensees and pub trade figures are being urged to attend the events to make their voice heard on the government’s plans to overhaul the licensing regime, which includes plans to hike licence fees and charge a late-night levy.
“It’s worth noting that every seat not occupied by a licensee will be taken by a health professional or a police officer, who will tell the Home Office exactly how your pub should be run,” said Lee Le Clerq, the British Beer & Pub Association’s north of England secretary.
